WE NEED YOU: BSOE CON 2017

SO... What is Burdell's School of Entrepreneurship?

Burdell's School of Entrepreneurship (BSOE for short) is a one-day startup conference like no other. You'll find some of the best and brightest black entrepreneurs giving practical tactics on starting or growing your business, no matter what stage of the process you are in.

BSOE is a high-intensity, interactive (and fun) conference targeting high school students, college students, and young professionals in order to change the face of entrepreneurshipThrough carefully curated workshops, presentations, and panels we will tackle aspects of entrepreneurship that are often overlooked in our community and help elevate our minority owned businesses to the next level.

OUR METHODOLOGY

SUPPORT: We have community leaders, get-it-doners, and young entrepreneurs teach the ins-and-outs of building your business, from overlooked legal aspects, leveraging social media, or getting funding.

PROMOTE: We focus on finding rising business rockstars to present at BSOE. We've learned that those on the rise have resonating lessons learned, are more relatable to our attendees. We in turn, promote their businesses in an effort to aid in their growth.

CULTIVATE: if we fill a room with potential, we know we can build innovative ideas and inspire one another. Rather than competition we focus on utilizing individuals' strengths to collaborate and grow. Through pipeline mentorship we aim to have each age range of entrepreneurs inspire and impact the next.

BSOE fixes that by providing a safe and fun space for collaboration. We encourage entrepreneurs to pursue capital and to link passion and resolve to take there business to the next level. This conference is set out to not only inspire and motivate the masses but also; to educate and open these business minds to shape themselves and their respective ventures for success.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

  • Black Women are the Fastest-Growing Entrepreneurs, outpacing the national average by 6X.
  • 2.6 Million Black Owned Businesses, <10% of all U.S. Businesses
  • Over $1.3 Trillion in Buying Power vs Black Business Sales of $150 Billion
  • 9.7% of all Black-Owned businesses located in Atlanta

OUR CHALLENGE

  • There are less resources in minority communities for access to influential networks, mentors, and opportunities.
  • Traditionally, our community focuses on education and corporate jobs; with less focus on entrepreneurship.
  • Black women are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs, yet are the least to be private or publicly funded.
  • In tech, only 1% of black-owned startups receive VC funding.

BSOE GOALS

  • Make mentorship opportunities readily available.
  • Utilize success stories to advise future business owners.
  • Make our BSOErs aware of the dangers lurking and advise against potential failures as well.
  • Help young entrepreneurs get funded and make a mark on their industry.

THE IMPORTANCE: THE BLACK DOLLAR

Minorities can help develop their communities exponentially with entrepreneurship.

Through owning businesses minorities have a better opportunity to impact economics, because it translates to positive changes in opportunities such as equal pay, school systems, politics, and civil other civil issues.

“Nobody will fall cause everyone will be each others crutches.”
- JAY Z

  • There are 371,588 business in Atlanta, but only 8% are owned by minorities, though minorities make up over half the population.
  • Atlanta's GDP is around $175 billion, minorities are only controlling $14 billion

It's time spark, empower, and cultivate young professionals to be business owners in order to improve our community's lifestyles.
